Visit California Statement: 2022 MICHELIN Guide California Star Selections Revealed

LOS ANGELES, Calif.— California has 100 newly starred restaurants as awarded at the MICHELIN Guide Revelation Dec. 5 at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

MICHELIN’s release of the fourth edition of the MICHELIN Guide California included a total of 599 restaurants. That total includes 11 Green Stars awarded for leadership in sustainability practices. California is home to 11 of only 13 Green Stars in North America.

The California guide is a statewide edition of the acclaimed global restaurant guide, which includes the globally recognized star designations, as well as hundreds of Bib Gourmand and Plate recommendations.

Restaurants included in the new guide hail from dozens of cities across California, including Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Mendocino and San Diego.

Among California’s distinctions:

  • One new three-starred restaurant awarded to Addison in San Diego, bringing the state’s tally of three-starred restaurants to seven (of 14 in the United States)
  • 17 new one-star distinction restaurants, located in Los Angeles, Montecito, Santa Monica, Geyserville, Sacramento, San Francisco, St. Helena and Paso Robles
  • 15 new Bib Gourmand recipients, which recognize eateries for great food for a great value

Special awards presented to:

  • Michelin Sommelier Award: Vincent Morrow, Press in St. Helena
  • Michelin Exceptional Cocktails Award: Bar team, Manzke in Los Angeles
  • Michelin Young Chef Award: David Yoshimura, Nisei in San Francisco

All restaurants were reviewed and awarded according to Michelin’s proprietary and independent inspection and selection process.
